"Lady Rose"
Martha Martin is an award-winning contemporary artist, strategic advisor, and visionary thinker whose practice bridges fine art, digital innovation, and systemic change. Her work has been exhibited in over 30 shows—including Missouri’s State Capitol and Red Dot Miami during Art Basel—and featured in Financial Times and Flaunt Magazine. Early recognition for her “Heartbreak” series, which toured nationally, revealed art’s capacity to hold emotional depth and inspire transformation.
Through her HumanNature series, Martin creates symbolic, hyper-real nature portraiture that invites viewers to reimagine the living world as aware, intelligent, and deeply relational. Central to the series is Lady Rose (2024), a green-eyed pink rose queen refined over 7.5 years, embodying compassionate leadership and humanity’s connection to sentient nature. The series already includes explorations such as The Mushroom Wizard (Study) and is expanding into a suite of rose portraits that probe plant consciousness, communication, and the unseen forces shaping existence.
Martin works primarily in acrylic and water-soluble oils, obsessing over luminous light, rich textures, and atmospheric depth until each piece reveals itself. Her process is both technical mastery and meditation—a way to bring the unseen into physical form. She draws inspiration from nature and travel, from questions about the intelligence and relational capacity of the living world, and from artistic forebears including Georgia O’Keeffe (whose monumental flower portraits first taught viewers to truly see nature’s power and mystery), Dutch still-life painters, Renaissance masters, Dalí, Magritte, and O’Keeffe’s bold symbolic approach.

Exploring Nature’s Intelligence Through Art
Martha Martin challenges us to rethink the way we perceive the natural world. Inspired by the idea that nature may think, feel, and remember in ways we are only beginning to understand, this series seeks to illuminate the interconnectedness of humanity and the environment.
The artworks explore profound questions: Does nature have intelligence? Can plants and other elements of the natural world communicate with us? How might a rose, a giant redwood, or even water experience time or awareness? These pieces aim to evoke a sense of connection, wonder, and respect for the intelligence that may exist beyond our understanding.
Drawing from emerging research, ancient wisdom, and personal exploration, HumanNature invites viewers to engage with nature as a sentient presence—one that observes and interacts with us. Each piece in the series strives to convey personality and emotion, much like a portrait can reveal the essence of an individual.
By fostering dialogue and curiosity, this series aspires to spark a deeper appreciation for the beauty and wisdom inherent in the natural world.
Please enjoy this media library, featuring documentaries, books, and clips that also explore these concepts. Share them with others to inspire even more conversations about the wonders of the natural world.
